FuturEdge Charter Academy is a public charter school and proudly operates as a Title I institution, committed to providing equitable educational opportunities for all students. As part of this commitment, FuturEdge Charter Academy does not charge any application fees or tuition. To be eligible for enrollment, students or their parents/guardians must reside in the State of Nevada at the time of application. FuturEdge Charter Academy reserves the right to deny admission to any student who is currently suspended or expelled from another public school until the disciplinary period has officially concluded.

In alignment with our mission of inclusivity and equal access, FuturEdge Charter Academy does not discriminate or limit admission based on intellectual ability, academic achievement, aptitude, athletic ability, disability, race, creed, gender, gender identity, national origin, religion, or ancestry.

School Breakfast Program

We are proud to participate in the School Breakfast Program (SBP), a federally assisted meal program administered through the Nevada Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The School Breakfast Program ensures that students have access to a healthy, nutritious meal at the start of the school day, helping them arrive to class ready to learn.

Research shows that students who eat breakfast demonstrate improved concentration, stronger academic performance, and better overall attendance. Through the SBP, our school provides balanced breakfasts that meet USDA nutrition guidelines, including whole grains, fruits, and milk to support students’ growth and energy throughout the morning.

Breakfast is available for free for all students at FuturEdge Charter Academy. Our goal is to ensure that every student has access to a nutritious start to their day so they can fully engage in learning and achieve success in the classroom.

School Wellness Program

FuturEdge Charter Academy School Wellness Policy
FuturEdge Charter Academy is committed to creating a school environment that promotes student wellness, optimal health, and academic achievement. This policy aligns with the goals of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), the Healthy, Hunger‑Free Kids Act of 2010, and Nevada Department of Agriculture guidelines to support whole-child wellness through nutrition, physical activity, and community involvement.

Advisory Group
FuturEdge Charter Academy will maintain a Wellness Advisory Committee composed of parents, students, school food service staff, physical education teachers, school health professionals, school administrators, board members, and community members. This group will meet at least twice per school year to review, update, and promote the wellness policy.

Wellness Policy Coordinator
The school will designate at least one Wellness Policy Coordinator who will ensure compliance with this policy, lead implementation efforts, and serve as the primary contact. The coordinator’s name and contact information will be submitted to the Nevada Department of Agriculture by September 30 annually and updated within 60 days of any changes.

Recordkeeping & Public Transparency
FuturEdge Charter Academy will retain all necessary documentation to demonstrate compliance, including meeting agendas and rosters, wellness assessments, public outreach efforts, and updated policy documentation. The policy and triennial assessments will be made publicly available via the school’s website and through annual family communications.

Goals for Wellness Promotion

  1. Nutrition Education & Promotion
Nutrition education will be integrated across content areas such as science, health, and physical education. Activities such as taste-testing events, farm-to-school programs, and student engagement in menu planning will be implemented to promote healthy food choices.
  2. Physical Activity
The school will provide all students with opportunities for age-appropriate, moderate-to-vigorous physical activity each day through PE classes, structured recess, and classroom movement breaks. Recess will not be withheld as a consequence for behavior, and teachers will be encouraged to use physical activity as part of instruction.
  3. Other School-Based Activities
FuturEdge Charter Academy will support wellness through staff wellness initiatives, social-emotional learning programs, mindfulness strategies, and a safe and inclusive environment that supports all learners’ physical and emotional health.

Nutrition Standards for Foods and Beverages

All foods and beverages sold, served, or offered on campus during the school day—outside of the reimbursable school meals—must meet USDA Smart Snacks in School Nutrition Standards. NSLP meals will continue to comply with USDA requirements to ensure they provide one-third of the recommended daily allowances for calories, protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C.

Parties, Fundraisers, and Rewards
All foods and beverages sold, served, or offered on campus during the school day—outside of the reimbursable school meals—must meet USDA Smart Snacks in School Nutrition Standards. NSLP meals will continue to comply with USDA requirements to ensure they provide one-third of the recommended daily allowances for calories, protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C. Foods provided for celebrations, school events, or rewards must meet Smart Snacks standards or emphasize healthy, non-food alternatives. Fundraisers held during the school day are also required to comply with both USDA Smart Snacks standards and Nevada Department of Agriculture regulations. Under Nevada’s policy, schools are prohibited from selling foods or beverages that do not meet Smart Snacks standards from midnight until 30 minutes after the school day ends. This ensures that candy sales, soda, and other non-compliant items may not be sold during instructional hours, though such items may be sold outside of the school day if aligned with community events or extracurricular activities. FuturEdge Charter Academy will encourage non-food fundraising alternatives, such as fun runs, book fairs, or merchandise sales, and will promote rewards that emphasize recognition and healthy practices rather than unhealthy foods.

Only food and beverage items that meet Smart Snacks standards may be marketed or advertised on campus during the school day. Marketing of non-compliant foods will be prohibited in all school settings, including signage, scoreboards, and vending machines. Students will be provided at least 15 minutes to eat breakfast and 20 minutes to eat lunch from the time they are seated with their meals, and where feasible, recess will be scheduled before lunch to promote better food consumption and behavior.

Marketing & Advertising

Meal Timing & Consumption
Students will be provided at least 15 minutes to eat breakfast and 20 minutes to eat lunch from the time they are seated with their meals. Where feasible, recess will be scheduled before lunch to promote better food consumption and behavior.

Assessment & Policy Review
A comprehensive review of the policy will occur at least once every three years through a triennial assessment. This review will evaluate compliance with the wellness policy, progress toward goals, and alignment with model wellness policies. The results of the assessment will be made publicly available and used to update the policy as needed.

Use of NSLP Funds
Funds from the nonprofit school food service account may be used to support wellness-related activities that align with the purpose of the school nutrition program, such as professional development for cafeteria staff or materials for nutrition promotion initiatives.

Nevada-Specific Requirements
FuturEdge Charter Academy will implement all required elements of Nevada’s State Wellness Policy, including restrictions on food marketing, adherence to Smart Snacks and NSLP meal standards, and maintaining adequate time for meal consumption. The school will also follow the best practice recommendations in the Nevada Local School Wellness Policy Best Practices Manual.
